چکیده

PURPOSE To evaluate, in vitro, the leakage observed in internal hexagon and Morse taper implant-abutment connections. MATERIALS Ten specimens with internal hexagon and 10 with Cone Morse connection were used. The inner parts of 5 implants, per group, were inoculated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PS) suspension and 5 implants, per group, with Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (AA). The penetration of bacterial suspension into the surrounding solution was determined by observation of turbidity of the broth. RESULTS In the internal hexagon implants, bacterial contamination was found in 2 of 5 implant-abutment assemblies seeded with the PS, and in the assemblies seeded with AA, the contamination was found in 3 samples, with a total of leaked assemblies in this group in 5 of 10. In the Cone Morse implants, bacterial contamination was found in 2 of 5 implant-abutment assemblies seeded with the PS, whereas in the assemblies seeded with AA, no contamination was found, with a total of leaked assemblies in 2 of 10. CONCLUSION The data support a not significantly higher permeability to bacterial leakage and a lower infiltration rate of screw-retained abutment connections when compared to Cone Morse taper internal connections.

Microbial leakage through the implant-abutment interface of Morse taper implants in vitro.

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine and compare the frequency of bacterial leakage of Streptococcus sanguinis biotype II along the implant-abutment interface between two systems of morse taper dental implants. Different methods of activation of the taper abutments were used: tapped-in (Bicon) and screwed-in (Ankylos). MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty sterile assemblies were used and...

Bacterial colonization at implant – abutment interface: a systematic review

Background: Although implants have shown to have a high success rate, clinicians are also called upon to encounter numerous complications and failures. Among the numerous reasons of failures, peri-implantitis is reported to account for 10% of the failures. As the oral cavity provides a natural habitat for various micro-organism due to its non-shedding surface, there is some evidence that gram-n...

Effect of GapSeal® as a Sealing Material on Microgap and Microleakage at External Hexagon Implant Connections Following Cyclic Loading: An In Vitro Study

Background and Aim: The mismatch of the implant-abutment connection can produce instant stress and microleakage which result in mechanical and biological complications. This study aimed to investigate the influence of GapSeal® as a sealing material on the extent of microgap and microleakage at the external hexagon implant platform following cyclic loading. Materials and Methods: Sixteen implan...

Comparative evaluation of peri-implant tissues in patients wearing mandibular overdenture with different implant platforms

Background The poor hygiene of peri-implant tissues causes inflammation at tissue-implant interface, which may impair the rehabilitation success. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of external hexagon and Morse taper implants on peri-implant health in patients wearing mandibular overdentures for 1 year. Materials and Methods A total of 46 implants were evaluated, 28 external ...

Microbiological Sealing Analysis of a Tapered Connection and External Hexagon System

Considering the variety of implant connection systems available in the market and the contrasting literature regarding tapered connection systems in terms of bacterial leakage, the aim of this in vitro study was to compare the effectiveness of the bacterial seal at the implant/abutment interface between an external hexagon and a tapered connection system. Twelve sets of indexed tapered connecti...
